I&#039;m completly agree with you, it works without the 2x2x2.
It was my original design.
The 2x2x2 inside forbid rotational moves.
Those moves don&#039;t help for the solving, but with the inside cube, the puzzlers can&#039;t use turns, and they are not tempted to use force, so they can&#039;t &quot;hurt&quot; the puzzle.
In a metal version, this puzzle would be certainly better without the cube, because the puzzlers would be in front of a very loosely puzzle, with only one possible way to solve it.
